Vodafone hosts Northern Powerhouse Spring Summit

Vodafone UK is bringing together representatives from industry, Government and local services committed to promoting development across the region.

Vodafone UK is proud to be hosting the Government’s first Spring Summit for the Northern Powerhouse Partners, bringing together representatives from industry, Government and local services committed to promoting development across the region. The Summit is being held today at Vodafone’s regional HQ at Atlas House, Wythenshawe in Manchester.

Rob Mukherjee, Director of Regional Business, North West at Vodafone UK, will be addressing attendees at the event, highlighting the opportunity the region has to lead the fourth industrial revolution and how digital connectivity and technologies are shaping a new era for business and the delivery of public services.

“There’s never been a more important time for industry, government and regional communities to work together – as organisations explore new trading opportunities, support an increasingly multi-generational workforce and explore the potential of new innovation,” said Rob Mukherjee. “The Northern Powerhouse Partner Programme provides a great forum for driving cooperation between partners and the government team.  We look forward to joining what will be our second partner meeting, to hear and contribute ideas which support further growth, innovation and skills development across the region.”

Vodafone UK joined the Northern Powerhouse Partnership Programme in December 2016 and is committed to the development of the region’s digital infrastructure and helping organisations support their digital transformation efforts with advanced business communications, networks and Internet of Things technologies. As a major regional employer, earlier this month Vodafone announced 1,400 new customer service jobs in Manchester and Newcastle.

Vodafone has invested hundreds of millions of pounds in its network and services across the North over the last few years, with more to come as part of its £2 billion investment in its UK network and services over the next few years.  Thanks to that investment Vodafone has brought 4G coverage to hundreds of Northern cities and towns.

About Vodafone UK

Vodafone UK is a technology communications company that connects people, businesses and devices to help our customers benefit from digital innovation. Our services span mobile, fixed-line connections, home and office broadband, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

We have a strong track record as a tech pioneer, making the UK’s first mobile phone call, sending the first text message, and making the UK’s first live holographic call using 5G in 2018. We were the first to start carrying live 5G traffic from a site in Salford, Greater Manchester and now have 5G in locations across Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain as well as the UK. Meanwhile, our 4G network coverage currently reaches over 99% of the UK population.

Today, Vodafone serves more than 18 million mobile and fixed-line customers in the UK. Vodafone is the largest provider of full fibre in the UK – our superfast broadband services are now available to nearly 12 million homes across the UK.

Sustainability is also at the heart of what we do: as of 1 July 2021, 100% of the grid electricity we use in the UK is certified to be from renewable sources.
