Brighton phone boxes in busy areas receive Vodafone 4G tech makeover

Vodafone has used clever technology across Brighton to ensure customers and businesses in the city can keep enjoying a great 4G connection, as the demand for data on the move continues to grow.

Five phone boxes in the city have been kitted out with miniature 4G technology units to boost signal in Brighton’s busy streets. The phone boxes are located in Bartholomew Street, Castle Square, Duke Street, Queens Square and on the sea front by Palace Pier.

The new 4G technology, which is small enough to fit on the roof of a traditional phone box, gives a 4G signal with a 200-metre coverage radius, making it perfect for the busy city centre.

Scott Petty, Chief Technology Officer, Vodafone UK, said: “Our network has never been busier as more people rely on their smartphones and expect a fast, reliable connection – for shopping, social media, entertainment, maps, and so much more.

“Across the UK, we see old phone boxes being used as libraries, shops and even aquariums. But with our technology they are returning to their roots, ensuring residents and visitors to the city can stay connected.

“At Vodafone, we continue to innovate so that our customers can keep connecting.”
