Kidsmas Live delivers a wonderful evening and a boost for Barnardo’s charity

It was a night of song and cheer with a serious message as Kidsmas Live 2021 took place in aid of Barnardo’s charity, with school choir groups joining celebrity guests live from Birmingham Town Hall.

Hosted by Heart Radio DJ Dev Griffin and streamed live across the UK by Vodafone, TV star Troy the Magician wowed the audience in between spectacular choir singing from children’s schools across the country. 

The actress Dame Emma Thompson opened the event with an important call-to-action, reminding the audience that as many of us look forward to time with family and friends; “thousands of children across the UK are feeling left out.” 

“Your positive action creates change for a child who needs it more than most,” Dev echoed. Alongside this, autographed Anthony Joshua boxing gloves were among a whole host of prizes on offer for those who donated. 

Troy the Magician manipulated one, two, then a massive 24 Rubik’s Cubes to form the face of Super Mario – “a one in quintillion chance” he smiled. His E4 magic show is broadcast in over 120 countries.

Amongst the stories and good cheer, we heard how Barnardo’s funds help support young carers, giving them a space away from their responsibilities so they can relax and share experiences. 

Merthyr Tydfil Young Carers choir – made up of Barnardo’s service users –  joined Bromsgrove School, Olive Hill Primary in Dudley and Downe House in Thatcham, singing festive favourites. 

We also heard how Vodafone’s Great British Tech Appeal, which sees the company donate six months’ of free connectivity for every smartphone or tablet donated by the public, was helping vulnerable young people to connect with society for work, study and more. 

To date, the Tech Appeal has connected more than 7,500 young people across the UK.
