Allwyn nears finish line for National Lottery win

Allwyn, the newly declared Preferred Applicant to run the UK’s National Lottery, will draw upon Vodafone’s expertise to improve lottery retail operations.

Allwyn, the UK arm of Allwyn Entertainment which operates lotteries in numerous European countries, has been declared the Preferred Applicant by the Gambling Commission to run the UK’s National Lottery.

Their licence to run the Lottery will start on 1 February 2024 and last for 10 years. Allwyn will be expected to maximise returns for charitable good causes.

Allwyn intends to work with Vodafone in using technology to improve how lottery sales are run. The two companies have already conducted research into how young adults have come to expect tech- and online-supported shopping trips – even from their local corner shops.

Nick Gliddon, Vodafone’s UK Business Director, said: “Since Allwyn invited us to join their bid team, we’ve been excited about the difference that technology can make to the future of the National Lottery – I believe tech will play a vital role in engaging new audiences and delivering exciting innovations.

“We look forward to working with the brilliant and creative team at Allwyn to support more fundraising for good causes across the UK”.
