Tired of wearing the same old things? You might not need to spend a fortune on a new wardrobe to freshen up your look. The tech in your pocket can help you create stylish new outfits with clothes you already own.
Here are the outfit-picking apps you need to dress better in 2022.
Smart closet iOS, Android (Free)
With Smart Closet, you can organise your wardrobe, build you own personal “lookbook”, share your pairings and browse outfit ideas posted by fellow fashionistas, and shop for extra items that will complement your personal style – all in the same place.

Users rave about how easy this app is to use, especially when it comes to editing photos of your clothes and accessories. And you can get even more features by subscribing to the pro version, which is available monthly or annually.
Pureple Android, iOS (Free)
Outfit planner Pureple is a totally free app with powerful auto categorisation capabilities that make it easy to organise items in your wardrobe by filters, such as season, occasion, colour, and brand.
Billed as a virtual stylist, it enables you to plan outfits in advance and ask for suggestions of looks you could create based on one item. You can also take inspiration from the many looks shared by other users.
Stylebook | iOS (Free)
Like the other apps here, Stylebook’s got the clothing cataloguing thing down, as well as the ability to assemble and save ‘looks’. But it’s also got a massive list of other features, such as packing lists for holidays, a built-in shop, and a powerful (and really interesting) stats tool to help surface clothes you never wear and outfits you’ve overlooked. You can even filter items and outfits by descriptors such as colour.
My Wardrobe | Android (Free)
Go from drab to divine with virtual outfit maker My Wardrobe, an easy-to-use app that helps you see what you have in your wardrobe and put together outfits for different occasions. It’s one of the highest rated outfit choosing apps available on Android, with reviewers praising its simplicity and relative lack of ads.

It doesn’t have a shopping feature, so it won’t suggest purchases that could spice up your collection. Whether that’s a blessing or a downside is for you to decide.
Your Closet Android (Free)
Categorise your clothes, plan what to wear based on your calendar or your travel plans and see how items you’re considering buying would work with the clothes and shoes you already own with Your Closet.
It’s only currently available on Android, but unlike some of the other closet manager apps out there, it does save your data when you switch phones – as long as you remember to back up your Google Drive.
Cladwell iOS, Android (Subscription)
The best things in life are not always free. If you’re keen to overhaul your look completely, it might be worth paying the subscription fee to sign up to Cladwell – an app that aims to make getting dressed every day easy by helping you to clear out the clutter and find your signature style.
There are two membership levels: App Membership costs around £3.50 a month (depending on whether you pay monthly or annually); Program Membership, which includes a six-week course on creating your perfect capsule wardrobe, costs about £15 a month with a 12-month commitment.
